Nylon Magazine

As the online magazine for The Girls has not been set up yet, I decided to look into magazines which I thought related well to their theme. I think Nylon Magazine fitted very well with the 80's scrap book type feel that The Girls are looking to create. I really like the mixture of graphics, text and photography which looks professional in a thrown together way.

Nylon also has its own Nylon TV which is a great insight to the behind scenes at the actual photo-shoots. I chose this one with Kristen Stewart not because of her interview but because of the styling used. I really like the mixture of grunge meets 80's with the use of DM's and bright colours.

I found this spread inspired by Madonna's 80's fashion style. This is great as it really shows that Nylon is really inspired the 80's and is encouraging its readers to do the same.
I think this photograph with the minnie mouse detailing and illustration is a fun way of creating a look without needing the accessories in the actual styling. It shows that things can be added at a later date in the editing process to create the overall look.
I thought this image showed a great link with period costume mixed with a contemporary item to give it a hard to place date. I think for my photo-spread I want to create a timeless look that can be re-used in later years and still not show its age.
I like the whole denim look which was a fashion statement in the 80's. I think I could incorporate a denim shirt which is fashionable at the moment to go alongside my period costumes. This would give it an 80's reference but as its 'in' at the moment it will also keep the look contemporary.
As well as 80's fashion in the magazine. I have also found reference to period dress. For example these photographs show an elegant way to present draping materials. This may be an interesting way to show off my long dresses in an original way.
I thought the three images below related really well with what I have been looking at in the 18th Century. I like the use of the big hats which have been mixed with contemporary clothing. I like how the styling only has a few items which look historical but make the whole image look that era even though it is contemporary clothing. It shows that you don't need to have the whole 'look' to give the feel of that period.
I thought this image was interesting as it shows how paper has been incorporated to look like a garment.
I really love these last photographs as I think the use of an accessories completely changes the look to give the impression of clothing. I think accessories are the way to subtly inject the 80's into the 18th century without it overpowering the image.
