I've chosen to do Lula Magazine for my magazine layout because I think it relates the best. Originally I wanted to propose my photographs for The Girls online magazine, however I think I have drifted so far from The Paper Eaters Project that I think it will be better to use a magazine better suited to my work. For the magazine I want to put together a fashion spread and also the magazine cover.
For the cover I have therefore looked at Lula's previous magazine covers for inspiration. I felt that the head shot of Emma from the Kingston Lacy shoot was the best photograph for my cover because it had a Lula type feel with the lighting and the simplicity of the face and make-up.
Something I found the hardest to find, is the font for Lula. I have therefore had to create it on Photoshop by scanning in a copy of the magazine and then drawing over the title in another layer. I then used the select tool to highlight the writing and saved it as an EPS file so that the writing could be transferred over to my Indesign programme without including the white background surrounding the text.I then used the font Century which is a similar match to add the 'Girl of my Dreams' underneath the Lula title and the copyright symbol at the top left-hand side of the L.
The photograph could then be added to my template of the front cover. At first I made the image fit the frame but felt the photograph looked better and more like a Lula cover once it was cropped. With just the face being the main focus.Once I got the format and image right I played around with the colour of the title, I decided on the four colours (pink, yellow, blue and green) because they were the best linked to the colours I have been using throughout the project.
I think the blue and pink work the best out of the four. The blue because it matches the make-up. I think the pink however gives a good contrast and stops the title from hiding in the background. I added the bar code by scanning in a previous copy of Lula and then cropping it to use as an image.
